My oldest daughter was placed in the third grade classroom when she came home at 10.5 years old. A child that age who has been in an orphanage is very young...much younger than an American child that age. She did well among the third graders, and it was academically a good placement for her. She is 18 now and a junior in high school. No problems as a result of being placed in a lower grade than her age-mates. I'm not sure what grade Annabel is in (I'm guessing fifth?), but perhaps when you re-enroll her in school this fall, you could have her placed in a lower grade. It might be just what she needs to be successful academically AND socially.Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00223125019630414766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319873969772514937.post-86545396961941754752009-04-29T23:02:00.000-05:002009-04-29T23:02:00.000-05:00I agree with the first two comments, just pull her...I agree with the first two comments, just pull her and then try to find something else for the last two months. Schools have a date by which a student can leave with no penalty. Talk to the attendance clerk and find out that date. Then just pull her out. I am a single mom with three children from China, one adopted at age 10.5 years. She is 18 now.

The treatment of your daughter in this classroom is completely inappropriate, and unacceptable in every way. If the teacher and the principal are doing nothing to rectify the situation, you need to go to the superintendent of schools. I am not a big proponent of homeschooling in general, but in this case I would certainly homeschool Annabel until the end of the school year, which is just a few short weeks away, and perhaps look for different schooling options for her in the fall. She has enough to do with adjusting to her new life and new family without coping with a classroom full of evil children. Please give her a huge hug for me. Wish we lived closer!Mariehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00223125019630414766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319873969772514937.post-6029629634182818222009-04-25T15:32:00.000-05:002009-04-25T15:32:00.000-05:00Count me among the people who think you do SO MANY...Count me among the people who think you do SO MANY THINGS right!! They do for a minute, or a day, then they are right back trying to be friends with the jerky one. I don't get it either.
